1st Bullsbrook Air Scout Group

Who are we?

The 1st Bullsbrook Scout Group is for boys and girls from age 6 to 18.

Members have the opportunity to have fun and try many activities such as camping, hiking, caving, sailing, canoeing and abseiling.

Members also get to learn valuable skills such as Basic First Aid, for younger children, or Qualified Senior First Aid for older members, map reading, compass skills, orienteering, knot tying (essential when raft building) and leadership skills.

Who can join?

All children of the following ages:-

Joey Section 6 to 7½ years

Cub Section 7½ to 10½ years

Scout Section 10½ to 14½ years

Venturer Section 14½ to 17½ years

Membership can be applied for after a 6-week trial period by paying the membership fee, buying a uniform and being invested at which time the group scarf and badges are presented.

What does it cost?

Membership fees are about $85 per term, which includes insurance, an amount to the Scout Association and some to the Group. Activity costs - camping fees, equipment hire, etc - are kept to the minimum and are payable prior to the event.

Scouts is a uniformed organisation. The approximate uniform cost (shirt, pants, belt and hat) is $115. Only the shirt ($40) changes between sections and so a complete new uniform is not required each time a child moves up to the next section.

Committee

The committee undertakes fundraising, buying equipment, keeping financial records, assisting with leader recruitment and administration of the Group. The committee is made up of parents of youth members plus a representative of the uniformed leaders.

There is always space on the committee for a willing parent who wants to get involved. New ideas are always needed. Meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month. All parents are welcome to attend.

Parental Help

Occasionally parents will be asked to assist at meetings or on outings when extra adult supervision is needed. With help at meetings a leader can achieve more in constructive activities and the youth members can get more enjoyment from the meeting. If any parent has a particular skill or knowledge that could be incorporated in the Scouting program please contact your child’s leader. The Group tries to extend members knowledge and experiences and so make it more interesting for them.
